Katoghi is open Tuesdays through to Sundays all year. We offer homemade international cuisine and a traditional greek menu from the grill or the oven, using home grown or locally sourced products. Having won "The Best Ex-Pat Restaurant in Greece" award from The Daily Telegraph Newspaper in 2010, we can guarantee fine service in an atmosphere not found anywhere else on the island.
Peter & Alison are delighted to welcome you!

####Summer season is now upon us OPEN TUESDAYS THROUGH TO SUNDAYS#####

###Sunday 20th May, We will have Roast Pork, Crackling & Apple Sauce###

The Greek translation of Katoghi is a romantic  term, meaning "to the ground". This traditional building is one of the oldest and atmospheric in the village of Vafkeri with tremendous views over inland Lefkada.
Your hosts are Peter & Alison, originally from sunny Suffolk, England, who in 2008 stumbled across the island of Lefkada and fell in love with everything Greek and Lefkadian.
Alison is your chef, who has catered for the directors of Tattersalls, Newmarket, the foremost bloodstock auctioneers in the northern hemisphere,  and has worked at Bury St Edmunds Golf Club and two Suffolk countryside inns over the last twenty years. With this experience Alison can cater for all occasions.
Peter will meet and greet you and generally look after all your needs during your visit to The Katoghi. He has worked in the business for 25 years having learnt his trade managing public houses before moving onto managing the prodigious Veralum Golf Club in Hertfordshire, home of the Ryder Cup, then stepping up to restaurant management at the 4 star Swynford Paddocks Hotel in Newmarket, Suffolk.

Vafkeri is located in the centre of the island 19 km from the capital Lefkas, 9 km from Nidri and 25km from the port of Vassiliki making the village and The Katoghi the ideal spot for coffee, lunch, some terrific photographs and a walk through the olive groves and vineyards or for that special night out for dinner.

Lefkada is the only Ionian Island connected to the mainland, opening the doorway to the wonderful north western coastline of Greece. The mainly mountainous, ruggedly beautiful terrain is covered in pine, olive, cypress and plane trees. Being steeped in history, with wonderful beaches, greek cuisine and above all its' friendly people, no one will be disappointed. The island still has many untouched areas with winding roads connecting traditional stone built villages, one of which is Vafkeri.

Vafkeri is around  500 meters above sea level and has stunning views over inland Lefkada. It's history dates back to 16th century and it still has that magical atmosphere of an old traditioanal Greek village. In the centre of the village you will find the local church and the village wine press still used every year by its locals and the surrounding villages. The derelict monastery of Ayioi Asomatoi is a 30 minute walk or a 10 minute drive through wonderful countryside.

This is a simply gorgeous little place for a leisurely lunch or evening meal. Well off the beaten track in the lush green mountains of Lefkas, it offers simple but beautifully made food (the chocolate and coconut mousse was the best I've ever had) in stunning surroundings, with amazing views. The best possible taste in every sense - a real find, just magical.

Dear Peter & Alison
We had a great holiday, made all the more enjoyable by Alison's cooking and Peter's warm hospitality. Villa Mystiko wouldn't be the same without The Katoghi.

We really enjoy Lefkada, as you probably worked out, and at some point I'm sure wee'll make a return visit, and if so, can you hold the usual table for us!
Thanks for your kind hospitality, especially on the last night, which we really enjoyed.
We do hope the restaurant continues to go well for you.

Hello there in Lefkada ,
back home in northern Germany I'm looking at the pictures from your Katoghi , remembering the last week as we sat there with all the wind in our hair and our meal .
It was delicious and worth to remember for comming back to Vafkeri at our next stop near Lefkada .
Thanx also for seeing the trees growing and had "rockets" on our table ..... Greetings from the Aircooled-Volkswagen-Fans from Bovenau + Kiel Jurgen

Still thinking with pleasure of your good kitchen and the marvellous view from your terrace! Just gave several friends of mine who are sailing Lefkada the advice where they get the best food on the whole island!
All the best Petra
